The story of enslaved people finding their way north by "following the drinking gourd" is a well-known story of how Black folks in America used the night sky to navigate. Black astronomers like Benjamin Banneker, Beth Brown, and Neil DeGrasse Tyson have continued to explore the mysteries of the universe.
