Seeing History: A Survey of American Painting Through the Centuries

We’ll explore three centuries of American painting through the portraits of John Singleton Copley, Thomas Eakins, John Singer Sargent, and Mary Cassatt; the landscapes of Thomas Cole, Albert Bierstadt, Winslow Homer, and Robert Henri; and the diversity of the 20th century work of American artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe, Edward Hopper, Jackson Pollock, Helen Frankenthaler, Audrey Flack, Richard Estes, and Alex Katz.

Registration is required for this series, as space is limited. You do not need to register for each session individually; registration is for the entire series.

About the presenter: Martha Chiarchiaro has brought history to life through the art of the times for more than 30 years. She received her Masters’ degree in the History of Art from Williams College and provides a variety of art history presentations at the Worcester Art Museum, for WISE (the Worcester Institute for Senior Education), libraries, garden clubs, senior centers, and other organizations. As noted on her Seeing History website, Martha's specialty presentations related to specific periods, artists, and activities provide an in-depth look at the life and times of people through their art.
