Join us for Embracing All Kinds of Minds, an introduction to Neurodiversity, Autism, and Creating Inclusive Spaces. This talk will be presented by Hopkinton resident and Autism Specialist and Educator, Betsy K. Johnson, M.Ed.

Betsy will give an overview of neurodiversity, explore the social model of disability, and how we can, as a community, embrace neurodivergent individuals in a way that makes us a kinder and more inclusive community. She will talk about the Social Model of Disability, preferred language, and how it affects our values and attitudes, and other important topics, such as the Double Empathy Problem. She will also discuss how we as a community can make small changes and accommodations that make our town more accessible. After her presentation, the audience will be invited to participate in an open discussion.

Betsy Johnson, M.Ed. has a wide range of experience in education, healthcare, and business consulting. She currently works as an autism specialist and educator, coaching neurodivergent adults in meeting their personal goals in areas of education, employment, independent living, executive functioning, self-determination and self efficacy. She also works with organizations, providing guidance on the recruitment, hiring, and ongoing support of neurodivergent employees. She is an Autism Educator at UMass Chan Medical School and serves on the Tufts Dental Clinic CareQuest Advisory Panel, part of Tufts Dental School.
